Revenge of the suited connectors

To refrain from imitation is the best revenge - Marcus Aurelius

I got crushed last week. Absolutely crushed. Set under set, set under quads, set to runner runner flush, you name it, I bent over and took it. Even the small pots against ratholers I'd lose when they called my preflop reraise with half their stack to hit either a set or a sure-thing flush draw. On one day I lost $3.8k and the kicker was I wasn't even playing badly. It's days that like that sometimes convince me I'm doomed to lose, and that maybe I should switch to a new poker site where nobody knows me and the games aren't rigged against me.

Then I remember that I'm not superstitious, and that I'm a pro. So getting pounded financially and being mentally battered on a regular basis is par for the course. So I suck it up, and I fight back. So far this week I haven't had much luck in getting revenge, as I'm still being outflopped far too often and in spite of never offering correct odds to my opponents. According to HEM I'm nearly $1.6k under EV profit for the month. Actually, 'profits' isn't really applicable as this month I'm about -$1k in total earnings!

Anyway, please check the following HH from earlier today, and then send me my due sympathy by email or post - I'll take all I can get! Best of luck.

It's funny...when I play poker, I tend to tilt when I realize that I've won more than I should based on my all-in luck and expected rate of return.

When I'm losing but I know I'm making good decisions, I'm perfectly happy to keep losing.

So does that mean that I could handle being a pro or am I just crazy?

I'm currently running lucky in PLO so I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before I give up poker in disgust.

Good luck in turning things around. It seems that a little luck is all you need.

Poor Ice Cube. I would send sympathy but you had to know what you were getting into playing for a living. I have a lot of respect for you.. It is a mental challenge most people would fail at. Good luck tomorrow! Hopefully you get back on the good side of lady variance.

Thanks Klopzi, yeah I usually laugh when I play well but lose to poor players (tho I did scream "You Fckng Slag!" when the 7 hit). I think you could definitely handle being pro if the financial considerations didn't trouble you.

Thanks to both of you for the good wishes, they are of course returned with interest and the offer of sitting next to me until my luck does change so you can share the wealth...

What Waffles said. I can't imagine that being the sole source of income and taking beats like that. I'd be down even more cuz I'd have to go buy a new laptop after that...
